The A2 leaves Magdeburg to the east and runs almost dead straight onto the Berliner Ring (orbital motorway); only at the city edge does the vehicle switch onto the A115 into the inner city. The main risk of jams is on the Berliner Ring at peak times, which is why the firms like to set off in the early morning.
What the move costs
The price for a route comes together from three parts: the volume (usually €15 to €30 per cubic metre, rule of thumb about 10 cubic metres per room), the distance share (€0.25 to €0.50 per kilometre, so over 155 kilometres roughly €40 to €78) and a base flat rate for the call-out and provision. For a 2-room flat with about 22 cubic metres that works out at a volume share of €330 to €660, on top of which come the distance and the flat rate.
Because Berlin is only a medium-length long-distance run, the kilometre share stays manageable; the volume still swings it the most. The figures below are market ranges, not fixed prices — the binding price is quoted by the partner firm once it has reviewed your details.
Arriving in the capital
Berlin is a city-state divided into twelve Bezirke (boroughs), each with its own Bürgeramt (residents' registration office). For your registration you usually need an appointment there, and those are tight depending on the borough — book the appointment before the move and you save yourself waiting later on.
Legally: once you move into a flat in Berlin, you have two weeks to register at the Bürgeramt (§ 17 of the Federal Registration Act); miss the deadline and you risk a fine. This registration is separate from the moving costs, but it belongs right at the top of every moving checklist.
For individual pieces of furniture or a small part-load to Berlin, a Beiladung (part-load shipment) is often worth more than a lorry of your own.
The day in fast-forward
Loading in Magdeburg starts around seven in the morning; for a 2-room flat with packed boxes that takes, in practice, two to three hours. Around midday the vehicle rolls onto the A2, and by early afternoon the unloading in Berlin begins. What's critical is less the drive than the parking spot: in densely built-up inner-city locations the kerb is almost always taken, and without a set-up Halteverbotszone (temporary no-stopping zone) the team quickly loses an hour just to manoeuvring and long carries.
If you want to pull the levers yourself: pack boxes in advance and label them by room, dismantle furniture as far as you can, and note in your request whether either address has a lift. Each of these preparations shortens the paid labour time — and on this route that's the biggest single item, not the 155 kilometres of motorway.
